The Graduation Coach mission is to ensure the successful transition of students from elementary to middle school, middle to high school, and high school to postsecondary education or the workforce. Graduation coaches help provide comprehensive prevention and intervention programs for students at risk of grade retention and/or dropping out of school. They assist in identifying students in need of additional support and work with them to achieve academic and social success. Please contact the Graduation Coach for additional information on the following programs:
- Credit Recovery (PLATO, Summer School)
- Georgia High School Graduation Tests
- 504 Plans for 9th and 10th grade students

Fifteen years of experience in the field of education as both a teacher and coach in the states of Washington, California, Texas, and Georgia. He most recently taught AP Human Geography and World History in the Social Studies Department at West Forsyth High School, but in addition has experience teaching mathematics, language arts, gifted & talented, and science.

SCHOOL COUNSELORS
Professional School Counselors demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth. Through professional organizations, continued coursework, workshops, and conferences, school counselors stay abreast of developments in the counseling profession. Members of the Cambridge Guidance staff are involved in professional activities outside of school, not only as members, but as contributors and leaders in the profession by presenting at state and regional conferences, holding leadership positions, and participating in events. By playing active roles, your school counselors are helping to shape the profession. Cambridge Counselors are involved in the following professional organizations:

Counseling Assignments
Students are assigned a counselor based on the student’s last name. Occasionally, fluctuating enrollment and/or staffing changes necessitate changes to a student’s counselor assignment. Please keep in mind that School Counselors wear many hats and are often called out of the office for classroom guidance, testing, and school/system-wide meetings. To help us serve you better please schedule meetings with your School Counselor by appointment.

Kellen Kuglar is new to the Cambridge Counseling Department this school year. She previously worked as a school counselor at Northview High School and as a marketing coordinator in the information technology industry. She attended the University of West Georgia and Mercer University. She is a native of Roswell, GA and a graduate of Centennial High School. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her handsome dog, Cash. She is excited to be a part of the Cambridge community and looks forward to helping students with their academic and social needs.

Bonnie Schechter is a native of Rochester, NY and attended Oswego State University. She began studying psychology as a freshman, with the intent to one day become a school counselor. However, through taking general education courses, she developed other interests and in her sophomore year made the decision to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations. After graduating she moved to NYC where she worked as a media publicist. In 2007, she relocated to Atlanta, GA and most recently worked at the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) as a Program Coordinator. It was this position that afforded Mrs. Schechter many opportunities to work with children and adolescents; this sparked her previous long-time passion to work as a school counselor. In 2010, she made the decision to resign from her position at MDA and pursue a Master’s Degree in school counseling. Mrs. Schechter is dedicated to assisting students achieve educational, social and career success. She looks forward to an exciting and enriching year at Cambridge High School. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with her husband, son, and two dogs, Lilly Muffin and Riley Nicole!

Gwen Danner is a native of New Jersey and has been in Georgia for ten years. She received a B.A. in Education at Grove City College and a Master’s Degree in Student Personnel Services at Rowan University. As a former Business Education teacher and coach, Gwen looks forward to using her educational training, teaching experience, and life experiences to help guide students and parents at Cambridge High School. Gwen is married and busy with four children and two step children, four of which are currently enrolled in college. You have probably seen Gwen around Cambridge High School the first year Cambridge opened. She served as the Business Coordinator, Counseling Records Coordinator, Student Council Advisor, Senior Advisor, Homecoming Dance and Parent Night Coordinator, and also organized the Quarterback Challenge and Dodge Ball Tournament. Gwen prioritizes building positive relationships with students and looks forward to another successful year.

Amey Rishel worked for Fulton County Schools in the past as an educational interpreter. Her background includes working with the Department of Labor and Vocational Rehabilitation services, where she provided vocational counseling and evaluation, case management, job coaching, and job readiness skills training. Additionally, she worked for three years as the transition counselor at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf and is a nationally certified sign language interpreter. Mrs. Rishel is married and has two daughters that attend Fulton County schools. In her spare time, she enjoys playing tennis, cooking, and going to the park with her family and two dogs. Mrs. Rishel believes in advocating for and supporting students in their personal and educational endeavors.

Samiah Garcia moved to Atlanta from Florida ten years ago. After graduate school she was hired as a high school counselor at her alma mater in Miami where she worked for three years before moving to Georgia. Having experienced middle school counseling in Dekalb county, she found out that she belonged at the high school level, and started working at Northview High School. After working for eight years at Northview she joined Cambridge High School as the department chair of counseling. Ms. Garcia believes in providing students with the tools to make informed decisions. Her priority is building relationships with the students, parents and the community and to build a counseling department that exceeds all standards.
